Rose Shaw - mixed media, artist, teacher.
I have been practicing art in a variety of media since receiving my BFA in 1977. As a freelance artist I have worked on commissioned projects from the Virgin Islands and throughout Florida. I am an Intentional Creativity teacher in West Palm Beach, and was named Outstanding Art Educator of the Year by the Florida Art Education Association, for 2008-09. I was awarded the STAR Hermitage Residency in July 2018 from the Florida Arts Alliance for Education and experienced a three week intensive residency on Manasota Key in Englewood Florida, which resulted in eleven new works. I am available for classes in Palm Beach County.
My works have been included in several juried exhibitions including the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, Cornell Museum in Delray Beach, the Palm Beach State College Gallery, and the Lighthouse Art Center, where I won awards for my abstract piece "Two Towers" in their show 'Art of Association', and for an encaustic piece "Purgatory" in the 'Spotlight on New Talent' exhibit. My mixed media collages may include text, sheet music, photos, and calligraphy. Recent works include a series of sales tag collages with modern figures, including "Mod Love" which sold recently in the PBIA airport show. I have also designed and worked on many large outdoor murals, recently, a 9'x12' seascape for a private home, and a large scene with horses on a garage door at a country estate
I was invited to present several Art Workshops at the annual Florida Art Education Association State Conference in Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami and my newest Workshops, are a series of classes on Expressive Drawing. These classes are meant to free the artist within, and are not based on rendering likenesses, but more about mood, expressive line, unleashing creativity and feelings. Winter workshops will include Personal Mandala Making in various media. I am comfortable working in all media, and invite inquiries.
